Visit to Ballyholland of DSD Minister

Following some lobbying by our local SDLP Councillor - Karen McKevitt, the Department for Social Development Minister - Margaret Ritchie will be visiting the Ballyholland area on Thurs 23rd August. The main purpose of the visit is to hear about the BDA's ambitious proposals to build a new multi-purpose community centre/sporting facility as well as to hear about the great community and voluntary work which takes place in the area. Her department has just launched a £15M Modernisation Fund which the BDA hopes to secure a fair chunk of money from. The BDA is currently putting plans together for a presentation on the night and will be asking for assistance from all the other various voluntary/sporting/community groups in the area.

BDA making progress

The Ballyholland Development Association is starting to make significant progress towards the design, construction and operation of a multi-purpose community centre. Of late the BDA has met with local Councillors and helped secure another £5000 funding (in total we have £20,000 now from the Council to go towards the full design of the facility which will be commencing in earnest shortly), is in the runnning for around £200,000 of Sports Northern Ireland lottery grant (Ronan Murphy, Stephen McClelland and Cathy Mulholland recently attended an interview in Omagh in relation to the grant - thanks to Stephen/Cathy for their time and effort) and we are about to submit an application for the Government DSD Modernisation Fund of which we could secure around £250,000. This is all on the back of Planning Application work and drafting of legal agreements which would see the Harps lease a section of land to the BDA to build the centre on. If successful with these grants the BDA would call upon the wider Ballyholland community to do their bit and participate in a major development draw which would also add to the pot of money required, in all in the order of £700,000 may be necessary to complete the project.

Senior Football Run-In

There are only 6 games left to play after the break.

27 points is normally good enough to bag you a play-off berth. But this season could be a little higher, should any of Harps (20pts), Downpatrick (19pts) or Kilclief (17pts) make a serious charge. Put another way, if any of those sides was to win all their remaining fixtures, they would finish with 32pts, 31pts and 29pts respectively.

All told, Saval (27pts) are as good as already in the top four, while Ballymartin (24pts) and Annaclone (23pts) are shoo-ins as long as they don’t suffer some sort of post-holiday stress disorder.

Downpatrick and Harps meet each other straight after the restart, meaning leapfrogging can take place, and each team’s destiny is in their own hands. Kilclief are the only one of the top six whose season really depends on a few results going their way.

Series 18 (23rd July):
Downpatrick vs Ballyholland
Kilclief vs Glassdrumman

Series 19 (27th July):
Ballyholland vs Carryduff
Ballymartin vs Kilclief
Glassdrumman vs Downpatrick

Series 20 (30th July):
Ballyholland vs Glassdrumman
Carryduff vs Kilclief
Downpatrick vs Ballymartin

Series 21 (3rd August):
Ballymartin vs Ballyholland
Kilclief vs Downpatrick

Series 22 (17th August):
Ballyholland vs Kilclief
Downpatrick vs Carryduff

Series 11 (31st August) (Probable date):
Carryduff vs Ballyholland
Kilclief vs Ballymartin
Downpatrick vs Glassdrumman
