Senior Football News South Ulster League fixtures announcedClubs from County Down will compete in the South Ulster League for the first time in the upcoming months.
This competition sees first division clubs from Down, Armagh, Derry, Tyrone, Fermanagh, Cavan and Monaghan being split into groups of six teams, with the groups being played out on a round-robin basis during February and March. The winners and runners-up of each group then proceed to the quarter-finals.
Ballyholland will take their place in the tournament this year and they have certainly landed something of a plum draw in being grouped with Errigal Ciaran, home of the legendary Peter Canavan.
Due to National League commitments, Canavan and his fellow county players Mark Harte and Enda McGinley are unlikely to be available to play in the South Ulster league, but Ciaran should still be able to call on the likes of the elder Canavan, Pascal, as well as former International Rules player Eoin Gormley.
Other teams in the Harps' group include Glenullin, the club of Derry star Paddy Bradley, and Fermanagh's current league champions, Newtownbutler.
Sun 13/02/05 - Newtownbutler (Fermanagh) vs Ballyholland
Sun 20/02/05 – Ballyholland vs Ballybay (Monaghan)
Sun 27/02/05 – Glenullin (Derry) vs Ballyholland

General News BDA December 04 UpdateThe BDA Committee continues on its quest to develop plans for a Ballyholland Community Resource Centre. The following information is provided as feedback to the community:
Mentor Consultants are currently finalising a report containing an Economic Appraisal and Business Plan for the centre. This is required in order to confirm the extent of the project and to help secure the necessary funding from the various grant aid providers.
Once the report is approved the scheme will enter the most difficult period where this funding has to be secured. To obtain this funding which could be in the order of £0.5M is a complex business and the early part of this year will be a critical period.
To coincide with this and to gain support from the community the Committee proposes to hold an Information Evening on Tues 25th Jan 05 at 8pm in the Harps Club. All interested people from the community and surrounding areas are asked to attend.
Following on from this the BDA will hold its first AGM on Tues 15th Feb at 8pm in the Harps Club.

BDA News New Youth Group for the Ballyholland areaFollowing the recent Youth Consultation session chaired by SELB Youth Workers, the BDA has agreed with the SELB to set up a new Ballyholland Youth Group.
At an initial meeting between the Committee and interested people from the area it was agreed that the demand for structured youth activities was evident and that the BDA would facilitate this new youth group.
The Youth Group's initial start up meeting is to be held on Wed 12th Jan 05 from 8 - 10pm in the Ballyholland Harps GAC club.Rab McGrogan (SELB Youth Worker M: 07870 830615) wil co-ordinate the group and activities until Easter. For the moment this session is for youths aged 14 and over due to the nature of the discussion groups/activities to be undertaken. All interested youths in the area are more than welcome to attend.
In order to manage the group, members of the local community are required to act as Youth Workers. So youths aged 17/18 and any interested adults are asked to attend a couple of training sessions on Tues 11th and Tues 18th Jan at 8pm in the Harps Club to be chaired by Paul Bradley (SELB Youth Worker M: 07710 835513). They are aimed at providing leaders with child protection and youth work training for these roles.
A group of this nature is long overdue and the SELB commended the youths for putting forward such articulate opinions at the consultation evening. Once up and running this scheme can only bolster the case for a permanent youth club facility to be incorporated within the proposed Community Resource Centre. Thanks again to the Harps club for the use of their facilities and provisions for the younger kids from 11-14 will be provided in due course. Posted on 23rd Dec 04 by RM
