MAYOBRIDGE PUSHED ALL THE WAY

MAYOBRIDGE 3-12 BALLYHOLLAND 2-9

First Division newcomers Ballyholland almost created a big shock at Mayobridge on Friday evening as they were well in contention for most of this game and it took a late flurry of scores to see the County champions through.

County team mates Ronan Murtagh and Brendan Coulter were in splendid form for their respective teams with Murtagh notching 1-4 and Coulter 2-6. The first half saw a real see-saw battle with very little between the sides and at the break the home team led by just two points, the scoreboard reading 0-8 to 0-6.

The ‘Bridge received a great boost just after the restart when Noel Sexton found the net and then he followed this a minute later with a point. However the visitors refused to lie down and were back in the game in the 35th minute when Ronan Murtagh finished off a fine move to give the ‘Bridge keeper no chance. The Sky Blues were stung into action by this score and Brendan Coulter took advantage of a mix-up between the goalkeeper and two defenders to slam the ball to the net in the 39th minute.

Ballyholland continued to give as good as they got and closed the gap to just two points entering the last quarter when a long ball was misjudged by the ‘Bridge defence and Robbie White was on hand to flick the ball over the head of the advancing Liam Coulter for a well taken goal. With time almost up the margin was still only two points but then Brendan Coulter made the game safe with a point in the 59th minute and then after being put through by Ryan Brady he finished to the net to wrap up the scoring and the points.

Fundraising.

Well lads and lasses,
I'm sure you will all have seen the new club lounge by now and just this week the carpark has been upgraded and tarmac laid right down past the changing rooms.

To pay for all this work we will be starting a major fundraising campaign. The seats in stand will be offered for sale again for those who don't have one yet.

The advertising hoardings around the field will also be renewed so if you know of a local business who would like to put up a sign then let us know.

Finally the committee are considering offers from local businesses for naming rights for the stand. It early days yet but we will keep you posted on developments.

BDA News

Supermac elected as Lord Mayor

On Super Friday past Aidan "Supermac" McAleenan was duly elected as the new Lord Mayor of Ballyholland. The battle between himself and Damian "El Dixie" Dixon was as close as they get and in the end their huge fundraising efforts for the BDA were separated by a mere Two Score. Supemac with £3,594 pipped El Dixie by £3,554. Congratulations to both men and their campaign teams on a great performance and I'm sure Aidan will do a great job and Dixie will get a chance to challenge again. This money coupled with the £10,000 cheque received from the Council last week will enable the BDA Committee to get the architects to draw up detailed plans for the new community centre. Come summer time we should hopefully have the designs complete.....the bigger challenge is to secure the big monies needed to build it.
